NBA Summer League action begins today in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS – NBA Summer League 2013 in Las Vegas will feature 22 teams competing for the inaugural NBA Summer League Championship. The 61-game schedule runs today through July 22 at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion.

For the first time in the history of the event, a tournament-style schedule will be introduced. Participating teams will compete in three preliminary round games from July 12-16 before being seeded for tournament play culminating with a championship game on July 22. Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games.

NBA Summer League 2013 will open with the debut of New Orleans as the Pelicans when they meet the New York Knicks at 1 p.m. today. The Cleveland Cavaliers, who selected UNLV’s Anthony Bennett with the first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, will tip off their NBA Summer League competition against the Los Angeles Lakers at Cox Pavilion at 5 p.m. today.

Bennett, recovering from offseason surgery, will not compete in the league.

All NBA Summer League games will be available via NBA Summer League Live on NBA.com and NBA Mobile. NBA Summer League Live is a subscription service offering fans a full slate of live and archived games available on the web, App Store and Google Play.
