LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- Las Vegas has become a Mecca for college basketball, but it remains on the bench when it comes to hosting an NCAA regional.
Four conference basketball tournaments are being held in Las Vegas this week – the West Coast, Mountain West, Western Athletic and Pac-12 tourneys -- but that doesn't include the big dance.
The NCAA refuses to allow their postseason games here because Nevada allows sports wagering, but experts say March Madness is already huge in Las Vegas.
Pat Christenson with Las Vegas events says the region is doing pretty well without hosting the big tournament.
“It's not as if, like the other markets, having a postseason, one of the first rounds of the NCAA would have a major impact,” he said. “We're already packed with the people that are coming here for March Madness.”
Christenson compares it with the Super Bowl. He says the best place to be if you're not at the actual event is in Las Vegas.
