LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- The new owner of a Cold War relic let his imagination run wild when he discovered a safe underneath the floorboards.

That safe was inside Atomic Liquors, one of the oldest free-standing bars in Las Vegas.

This building first started out as a cafe in the 1940s, turned into a bar about a decade later, then closed in 2011.

The new owners have been renovating the place to reopen in a couple months. They've heard about a bump on the floor, but they didn't know what was inside the safe until this past week.

Lance Johns is all about preserving the past, but when he bought and began renovating Atomic Liquors, he had no idea how much history there was until they hit the ground.

General Manager Derek Stonebarger was the first to see what was actually inside.

When they opened it, they found old receipts dating back decades.

Although it wasn't gold, guns or jewelry inside, Johns says the receipts take them back in time. Stonebarger says they're still pieces of history.
