NORTH LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – A representative of the North Las Vegas firefighters union said this afternoon that Fire Chief Al Gillespie was placed on administrative leave after he refused to implement what he determined were dangerous cuts in 911 response.

The moves come two weeks after North Las Vegas City Manager Timothy Hacker laid off Deputy Chief Kevin Brame, who served as the No. 2 person in the department.

North Las Vegas spokeswoman Juliet Casey confirmed both personnel moves and said that Jeff Buchanan was selected Thursday as the acting fire chief.

“Both Brame and Gillespie saw the danger in these cuts to services to 911 response that Hacker had dictated,” said Jeff Hurley, president of North Las Vegas Firefighters Local 1607, in a statement provided by Fierro Communications.

“These two professionals literally have a lifetime of experience in fire services in major cities and could not support decisions that they felt were unwise and would destroy the minimal safety net provided by a Fire Department.”

Here is a quote from the MESQUITE CITIZEN JOURNAL published on July 14, 2012 where it talks about the FIRING of CITY MANAGER TIM HACKER: "Hacker was fired from his Mesquite position in May during a contentious City Council meeting which saw many local citizens express their displeasure at the Council's actions." He was fired as city manager of Mesquite because he was doing the exact same thing he is doing in NLV..laying off people he doesn't like, ruining lives and putting the citizens at risk. If you want to blame anyone, blame Mayor Buck for not doing her research when she agreed to hire someone that the citizens of Mesquite fired. Whats the definition of insanity? When you keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

This case against Chief Gillespie is nothing more than a witch hunt. I think its time to start an investigation into Tim Hacker's background and why the city is paying him $285,000.00 a year while firefighters are being laid off. The blatant lack of leadership the city of NLV is exhibiting has now reached the national news making Shari Buck and Tim Hacker look like clowns. This will end up in court and I predict both Gillespie and Brame being reinstated. But without ANY support from it's ungrateful citizens, why would they even want to go back?

I don't know where you dug up the information that "most cities" have a volunteer fire department. That's patently absurd.

But Hacker knows best...so if someone's house burns or someone dies because of the lack of fire services or personnel, then see Hacker directly?
