Officers involved in shooting of pantsless intruder identified

LAS VEGAS -- The officers involved in the July 23 officer-involved shooting which occurred in the 9000 block of Crystal Rock Circle have been identified as Officer Jay James and Officer Douglas Ericsson.

Officer Jay James, 40, has been employed with the LVMPD since March, 2000. He is currently assigned to the LVMPD Emergency Operations Bureau, SWAT Section.

Officer Douglas Ericsson, 42, has been employed with the LVMPD since February, 1995. He is currently assigned to the LVMPD Emergency Operations Bureau, SWAT Section.

Officer James and Officer Ericsson have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this event.

The Clark County coroner's office has released the identity of the suspect who died as 35-year-old Southaly Ketmany, 35. The cause of death has not been released.

Lava won't chase out some people

Scientists of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory conducted ground and air observations of the lava flow from the Kilauea Volcano and determined that it was 510 meters (560 yards) upslope from Pa-hoa Village Road and the flow width was about 50 meters (55 yards) at the leading edge.
