LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- While Christmas may be over, people are still shopping, and retailers are still trying to compete for those dollars with huge markdowns.

People have responded at Town Square. The sales signs were up everywhere luring customers to spend.

Shoppers not only brought their wallets and gift cards, they also brought the usual post-Christmas returns.

Nevertheless, Bryan Wachter of the Retail Association of Nevada says this holiday's shopping has been good so far. However, he says people have been cautious due to the uncertainty of the "fiscal cliff" -- Washington's mix of spending cuts and tax hikes due to kick in Jan. 1.

He says even with that, people still opened their wallets.

“Part of it, I think, is that there is fatigue in the recession,” Wachter said. “People want to spend during the holiday season, and they want to have that Christmas that they're used to.”

While there is still some time left, the prediction is ho-hum, just a little better than last year, but nothing spectacular.
