LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- A 10-year-old girl from San Diego is bringing her hometown project to Las Vegas.
Jessica Carscadden has collected more than 300 bags of stuffed animals over the past year, delivering them to fire stations in southern California.
She stopped by the Clark County Fire Department on Thursday to drop off 42 more.
She started the "We Care Bear" project last year when she realized she had a lot of stuffed animals in her room.
She donated them to the fire station across the street and continued that effort.
She said she hopes firefighters will give the furry friends to children when they are responding to fires or emergencies.
She says stuffed animals have always comforted her, and she wants to share that with other kids.
“These stuffed animals are soft and cuddly,” Jessica said. “You just want to hug them to death.”
“It’s amazing something that has started out so small has blossomed to this project that has encompassed pretty much all of southern California and into Nevada,” said Kathleen Carscadden, Jessica’s mother.
Jessica is dreaming big: she wants to expand her project nationwide and put a bag of stuffed animals in every emergency vehicle.
