LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Social media is being touted as largely responsible for the arrest of a man wanted in a residential home burglary that occurred Thursday.

Metro said Sunday evening that it has arrested 23-year-old Austin Jones of Las Vegas for forcibly entering a residence and taking numerous items. Jones was violating his condition of parole, Metro said.

The break-in was captured on home surveillance cameras. The video was posted on social media and the story was carried Friday by all major Las Vegas televisions stations.

Thursday at about 3:40 p.m. Metro officers responded to the 2000 block of Tanner Valley Circle to investigate a residential burglary.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had forcibly entered the residence earlier that day and taken numerous items. It was also learned the homeowner had an operating surveillance system which captured portions of the crime.

The victim also posted portions of the surveillance video on social media, which prompted numerous telephone calls to Metro with tips concerning the identity of the suspect.

The tips significantly aided Metro's investigators in identifying Jones. On Saturday morning investigators contacted Jones by telephone. He indicated his desire to surrender to authorities and later that day officers from Metro, Nevada State Parole and Probation and the Henderson Police Department took Jones into custody without incident.

Jones has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center, charged with burglary and violation of the condition of a suspended sentence.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with any information concerning this incident is urged to contact the LVMPD South Central Area Command Property Crimes Section at (702) 828-3267 or Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555, or go to crimestoppersofnv.com.
