LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) -- A July 15 trial date is set for the local woman accused of brutally killing a 10-year-old girl.
Brenda Stokes Wilson appeared this morning in a Regional Justice Center courtroom on murder and kidnapping charges in the December death of Jade Morris.
Phillip Morris, Jade's father, spoke after the court appearance.
Still visibly grief-stricken, Morris says Wilson was trying to make eye contact and even mouthed the words, “I'm sorry.”
“Trying to make sense out of nonsense. It doesn't add up to me,” Morris said. “She didn't even give my baby a chance to fight for her life and now she wants to fight for hers. Now hers is gone, too.”
Also, defense attorney Tony Liker said he plans to withdraw himself as counsel for Wilson.
In all, Wilson pleaded not guilty to six charges, including attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon for reportedly slashing a co-worker's face at the Bellagio.
There was a huge show of support for Jade, many wearing a shirt with a picture of the little girl in her memory.
