HENDERSON -- The man shot yesterday by Henderson police officers after he barricaded himself in a bathroom at a Henderson grocery store is in critical condition today but we're learning more about that man and the moments leading up to that shooting.

Jake E. Goldsborough, 36, was proxy booked on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon Thursday afternoon. He remains under guard in Sunrise Hospital.

Goldsborough was wounded by Henderson Police after aiming a gun at officers remained in critical condition Thursday.

Goldsborough was shot and wounded about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday after he aimed what was believed to be a handgun at officers. The gun was later determined to be a pellet gun made to look like a real semi-automatic handgun. A picture of the suspect’s weapon is attached to the press release so the public can get a sense of what the officers saw being aimed at them.

Henderson Police were called to the Albertsons grocery store at 190 Boulder Highway about 3:35 p.m. for a man in a bathroom with a gun. Another person had indicated the man may have a child with him. Officers arrived and evacuated the store as they approached the bathroom, which is located in the back of the store. The suspect was urged to put the weapon down and come out. He did not comply with the officers’ orders.

SWAT and crisis negotiators were called out and again tried to get the suspect to surrender. The man slowly pushed open the bathroom door and aimed a gun at officers. The man’s actions forced the officers to fire. He was struck several times and fell back into the bathroom.

The officers rushed in and pulled him out to get medical attention. The officers then checked the bathroom and did not find a child; however, an infant-sized doll on the changing table along with the man’s belongings.

Goldsborough has arrest records in Nevada, California and Washington. He was last arrested by Henderson Police in 2003 accused of smashing windows of a parked car. Police are continuing the investigation to determine why the man was in the bathroom with a weapon.
