SLOAN (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- Three people were injured Sunday morning in an apparent gunpowder explosion while they were target shooting in a field near Sloan Road and Las Vegas Boulevard South.
A man was airlifted in critical condition to UMC with injuries to his arm. Two other people suffered minor injuries and reportedly took themselves to an area hospital.
Metro's armor unit was called to investigate what is believed to be the possible explosion of shotgun powder that was being used for target practice.
"From initial reports, they were target shooting on BLM land and they were mixing two substances together when they exploded," Metro Officer Laura Meltzer said. "The explosion apparently happened when they were packing the substances."
Meltzer said the armor unit was trying to determine what the substances were.
"The only police thing we know for sure was they were trespassing because they are not supposed to be on BLM land," Meltzer said. "The rest is still being investigated."
Meltzer said the report would likely go to the Clark County district attorney's office for possible action.
