CARSON CITY (KSNV MyNews3) -- Pimping is referred to as pandering in Nevada law books, and Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto is fighting to call it sex trafficking.

Cortez Masto is introducing Assembly Bill 67, which calls for longer prison sentences on convicted pimps and grant victims treatment.

Andrea Swanson knows human trafficking is real: Her daughter was sucked into a sex ring in Las Vegas.

“Our ignorance, and our daughter's innocence, made her an identifiable target,” she said. “Forced into prostitution by her boyfriend-turned-pimp.”

Young women are trafficked all over the silver state. But Las Vegas especially is a hotbed for sex trafficking, in part because of the city’s big events and conventions that can draw a lot of men. But Cortez Masto says it can happen anywhere.

Assemblyman John Hambrick supports this and four other bills that would crack down on human trafficking.

“We need to get the message out: Come here have fun, spend money, see the shows, game, but leave our youngsters alone,” he said.

As a father and with 30 years in law enforcement, Hambrick says lawmakers must listen to the issue.

“It’s amongst the most violent actions a female can endure,” he said.

Las Vegas is on a sex trafficking route. Many girls are brought here from southern California. Since 1994, Metro has helped free more than 2,200 victims.

Don't stop with the pimps, all fines need to be increased to get peoples attention. Make moving violations 10 times what they are now and watch people slow down and stop when there supposed to.

This whole sex trafficking is a political fad. 2014 is coming up and the AGs reelection bid. We have the technology to track down child porn, yet it isn't considered important enough. Society wants to blame these pimps, but they are simply predators engulfing runaways whose parents are part of the problem. We are a state of hypocracy. The AG is really stupid to try to pass a law like this...and this is the reason. Nevada allows prostitution and Pimps. What do you think these brothel owners are? The only county that outlaws prostitution is CLark. Now take our constitution that says that everyone will "Have equal justice under the law". That means that the only way a law like that can be legal, is if Nevada outlaws prostitution entirely...and that is not going to happen...especially when the owner of the Mustang Ranch is now a state law maker. I am for increased penalties on Pandering, but lets do it for the right reason and not for a political gesture. Masto is a weak AG. She spouts a lot of intentions, but never follows through and refuses to indict corrupt officials in this state. In her campaigns, she spouted "The good ol boys system", but she has become one of the "Boys".

Wow, it is really great that they have freed so many. Great work after the point. Now how about doing something about the problem permanently. Like say, two convictions for sex trafficking gets you the death sentence! Losing ones life is much better then all the lives that one has destroyed! Won't happen though, America is run by liberal buffoons that have no balls!

I am with the Attorney General on this, as far as I'm concerned throw the human trafficers in jail and throw the key away.
