UMC relies on taxpayers to remain operational

UMC will always lose millions every year it is allowed to operate. If we can't shut it down altogether, then steps must be taken to reduce those losses. Closing all outpatient treatment clinics as well as stopping all kidney dialysis treatments would be a good place to start. The hospital caters to people with no insurance, including illegal aliens. Now, the county wants to raise property taxes so we can continue to pour millions down the drain keeping this facility open. The hospital should be sold to a profit making hospital or if that's not possible, then many of its facilities and depts. should be closed.

I work for a local company that had a large contract with UMC. The money UMC spent paid the salaries of thousands of local workers that put money back into the community. UMC decided not to renew our contract and sign a contract with an OUT OF STATE company for a lesser amount. That will put hundreds of local jobs at risk and also lower salaries for the remaining workers, taking alot of money out of the local economy. IMO, UMC is run by a bunch of short-sighted, narrow minded dolts who couldn't run a lemonade stand. Sorry, but giving out free health care is now affecting the lives of hard working local people who actually contribute to the local economy.
