Wet 'n' Wild reaches capacity before 10 a.m. on first day

LAS VEGAS (KSNV & MyNews3.com) -- Depending on whether you got in or not may largely shape your view about Wet 'n' Wild's opening day Saturday.

Gold season pass holders were standing in line hoping to gain access on opening day at the new Las Vegas water park when it reached capacity before 10 a.m. and had to stop admitting pass holders.

Wet 'n' Wild opened early at 8 a.m. in anticipation of a large crowd.

A News 3 photographer reported a long line of would-be patrons at the park on South Fort Apache Road near West Warm Springs Road when he arrived on the scene about 11 a.m.

"We reached capacity very early, before 10 a.m.," park spokeswoman Nancy Katz said. "We have people standing in line and we are letting them in as people leave the park.

Katz said park owners moved the opening time up two hours to 8 a.m. in anticipation of the large crowd. She said Metro police officers were assisting with crowd and traffic control.

The park has a listed capacity of 6,000 by Clark County officials.

The Wet 'n' Wild Facebook page has several hundred comments from people abut today's capacity crowd. Some praise Wet 'n' Wild while most are not so happy. May say they are or will seek refunds for their season passes.

"One of the big perks of the gold pass to us was that you got to get in on Memorial Day weekend and free parking," Stacey Segal told News 3. "If they have sold too many season passes it means everyday the park is going to be at capacity early. Our holiday weekend is ruined because they sold too many season passes."

During the days leading up to the opening people were in line for up to five hours to redeem the gold season passes they purchased online for the actual passes.

As for today's opening, one who tried to get in posted this on Facebook:

"They are letting people in. We just left but there is a long line to get in. It is moving but slowly. I think they are posting thay so people dont waste their time driving there and having to wait in line," posted Melissa Siebert Finnan. "The parking is the worst part. We got a great spot but we were there at 7 a.m. Now the cars are parked up and down the desert some a good mile away."

Another Facebook poster had praise for the water park management.

"I think they were very well organized," posted Michael Spencer. "They had police directing traffic towards the correct parking areas, staff walking around answering questions for the people in line, and they even updated their website when they filled up. Well done WNW. Only thing I can think of is they could have charged more for the gold pass to reduce the number of members.
