Woman killed by light pole in crash Identified

LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County Coroners sais 35-year-old Erika Marie Salazar of Las Vegas is the woman killed by a light pole on Monday, Dec. 15.

Coroner's Office said Salazar died from blunt force trauma of the head and neck and a projectile strike from motor vehicle collison. The cause of death has been ruled an accident.

Salazar was killed when a van crashed into a light pole in a parking lot at the Clark County Family Courts parking lot.

Officer Jose Hernandez says the crash happened before 1:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Pecos and Bonanza roads.

According to the police report, the 1990 Chevrolet Astro van driven by 69-year-old Felipe Bermejo of Las Vegas was traveling eastbound on Bonanza Road, in the center travel lane, west of Pecos Road.

Salazar was walking on the south sidewalk of Bonanza Road, west of Pecos Road. The Chevrolet van veered to the right, struck the curb, drove up on the south sidewalk, and struck a street light pole.

The light pole struck Salazar, causing her to come to rest on the sidewalk. The Chevrolet van re-entered the roadway, crossed over the eastbound and westbound travel lanes, and struck the north curb.

This is 107th traffic related fatality in LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2013.
