LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- With Sheriff Doug Gillespie announcing late last month that he will not seek re-election in 2014, Metro Officer Laurie Bisch says she's officially throwing her hat in the ring again.

She says now more than ever the public and the department are ready for new leadership.

“It's just about providing this community with the public service that it needs, leading this Police Department and trying to rebuild the bond between the Police Department and the community because right now I believe it's a little bit fractured,” Bisch said.

“The sheriff did have the support, along with the establishment money, to win two elections, and that's huge. But I think the citizens are looking for a change. They're looking for a different leadership style.”

Bisch says one area she would work to improve is the department's image. She also wants to establish better lines of communication between police and the public.
