LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) – An anonymous tip led Metro officers to one of the men suspected in the death of a Bonanza High School freshman over the theft of his iPad.

Michael Solid, 21, and Jacob Dismont, 18, were arrested Saturday in the death of 15-year-old Marcos Arenas. They are scheduled to be in court Tuesday at the Regional Justice Center. They are charged with open murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

Solid’s girlfriend led officers to the 21-year-old suspect, according to arrest reports from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Metro said Solid was apprehended about 4 p.m. Saturday and Dismont was taken into custody five hours later. Both arrests occurred in Las Vegas.

The theft and accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday when Arenas and a friend were walking near West Charleston Boulevard and Scholl Drive (near Torrey Pines) when a man exited a vehicle and attempted to steal an iPad from Arenas.

The boy refused to let go of the device. He was dragged while the suspect re-entered the vehicle with Arenas still either holding onto the iPad or being held by the suspect.

Arenas died shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday.

When Solid was arrested, his girlfriend said that he was with a friend named “Jake,” who played on the Sierra Vista High School baseball team.

Police went to Dismont’s home. A Ford Explorer driven by Dismont arrived about 9:40 p.m. The vehicle had several stickers on its frame and a license plate which was registered for a Mistubishi.

Both Dismont and Solid offered alibis that Metro says were quickly discounted through surveillance video. Both then asked for lawyers and were soon booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
