LAS VEGAS (John Treanor, KSNV MyNews3.com) -- The last time a Metro Police Academy class graduated was in January 2012. A stall in funding prevented the department from recruiting any more officers.
But the signing of the More Cops Bill by Gov. Brian Sandoval paves the way to recruit more officers.
Clark County still has to approve any increase, but the police are confident that will happen.
This is the first time in Metro history that there are no officers on probation since no officer has been hired in more than a year.
Senate Bill 1, which approved a quarter-cent sales tax increase, could change all of that. It means up to $30 million in new funding.
