LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) –
One man is dead and a suspect is under arrest after a shooting in the 1400 block of Amitola Avenue, near Wigwam and Interstate 215.
According to a Metro news release, the LVMPD Call Center received a 911 call at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, during which both a male and female attempted to request emergency assistance. The line disconnected, and several recalls from the Call Center were not answered.
Officers were dispatched to the residence where they encounter a male, later identified as 32-year-old Troy Martinez, at the front of the house holding an object later determined to be a handgun in his hands.
Martinez retreated into the residence only to quickly re-exit without the weapon and surrendered to officers.
Officers cleared the residence and located a female and two small children, all three of which were unharmed. The officers continued through the residence and discovered an adult male lying on the floor in the master bedroom suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medical personnel pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation initiated by Metro homicide detectives indicates the victim was visiting Martinez at his residence when an altercation ensued. Investigators believe Martinez was able to retrieve a handgun and shot the victim during the altercation.
Martinez was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he faces the charge of murder with a deadly weapon.
The identity of the victim as well as the cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office.
