LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- A local woman accused of killing her roommate with a shotgun appeared in court for the first time.
Mary Pitrello, 26, said little this morning in the courtroom of Judge Deborah Lippis. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 1.
But she had plenty more to say when she was arrested Thursday night. According to the arrest report, Pitrello claims she shot her male roommate, Oliver Doppert, because he had raped her a week earlier and she was afraid it would happen again.
The report says that after the shooting, Pitrello and a friend left the crime scene, a condo near Durango and Warm Springs in the southwest. She was quickly tracked down by police at The Stratosphere Hotel.
According to the police report, however, there is a second story, and it comes from the shooting victim's girlfriend.
She told police that Pitrello was intoxicated the evening of the shooting and Doppert had taken away her keys so she couldn't drive, and that's what led up to the shooting.
The victim's girlfriend told police she was on the phone with Doppert when she heard the blast on Thursday night. That was the last she heard from her boyfriend.
Pitrello was not asked to enter a plea today, and no discussion of bail took place.
