LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3) – A deadly crash over the weekend near Wynn and Spring Mountain is partially linked to prescription drugs.
Some people say this case highlights the need to crack down on prescription drug abuse.
James White, 33, was killed and his toddler, James, 2, was injured when, Metro police says, his vehicle was struck around 7:20 a.m. Saturday by a Hummer. The woman accused in the crash, Shauna Miller, 26, was said to be drinking and high on Xanax.
State Senator Tick Segerblom has legislation that would allow those who get addicted to prescription drugs to sue the drug manufacturer for the costs of going to rehab.
But that bill would not help the family affected in Saturday's accident -- they're calling for tougher punishments on those who abuse prescription drugs.
“I will never ever see my fiancé again,” said Rachel Sidor. “He will never see his dad again.”
A former drug addict herself, Sidor never thought drug abuse could come back to haunt her like this.
“We finally got our lives back together, and we've been working and doing good and being real people and you know living life how you should, and being honest and having love in our life and now this happens,” she said.
An addict-turned-advocate, Sidor says her son's unanswered calls for his dad compel her to fight for justice.
The funeral for White is scheduled for Tuesday at Palm Mortuary on Eastern.
