LAS VEGAS (KSNV MyNews3.com) -- The Asian-themed resort that's replacing the old Echelon likely won't open until 2016. But its owner and architect are hoping to stir up excitement in the meantime.

Paul Steelman, the architect for Resorts World Las Vegas, said via Skype from Asia that he’s eager to spruce up the site before construction on the main project even starts with an elaborate wall and preview center to show off what the site's future may hold.

However, the company cannot begin until the Clark County Commission gives the go-ahead. That could happen as soon as Wednesday.

If commissioners approve, Steelman says the preview center could be up in about six months. Construction on the main project is expected to start at the beginning of next year.

Its completion, set for 2016, will be the first major development on the Las Vegas Strip since the recession.
